December 12, 2014…… Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) announced a new comprehensive cancer center will be built in Brandon, FL. The announcement was accompanied by a groundbreaking ceremony attended by FCS leaders and physicians, as well as community officials, including Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White. The $11 million Brandon Medical Pavilion is a proposed 38,400-sf medical office building located at 623 Oakfield Drive in Brandon, FL. The cancer center will occupy the entire first floor of the facility.

More than 300 turn out for BBQ dinner and festivities
December 11, 2014…… Physicians and staff from Florida Cancer Specialists hosted a Celebration of Life event for more than 300 patients and their loved ones at the Brooksville location on November 21, 2014. The menu included barbecue, sides and an assortment of desserts. Dishing up the dinner were doctors Sawsan Bishay, Larry Gandle, Mary Li, Vikas Malhotra and Thomas Tang. Nurses Ann Bute, Sherrie Lalande, Tammy Mackiewicz, and the entire Florida Cancer Specialists team from Hernando also participated. There were raffles, giveaways, entertainment, pictures with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ cheerleaders and, most importantly, laughter and smiles everywhere as holiday music filled the air. “Our patients go through lots of heavy treatment regimens and a range of emotion,” Malhotra said. “We get close to our patients and relationships are built. They become like family to us and we decided to have a special celebration with our extended family today to show our appreciation for trusting us with their welfare, health and care.”

December 5, 2014…… More than 500 cancer patients and their family members attended an early Thanksgiving Dinner on November 21, 2014. The dinner was held at the Tampa Cancer Center, 3402 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa, FL 33607. The event was hosted by the physicians and staff of Florida Cancer Specialists (FCS) in Hillsborough County who served food with the assistance of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Louis Murphy and William Gholston. FCS physician Dr. Y.K. Peter Park said, “Our patients are really like family members to us. The doctors and staff wanted to demonstrate our appreciation for our patients and the trust they place in us – and we couldn’t think of a better way than to share Thanksgiving dinner with all our extended family members.”

December 4, 2014…… Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), the largest independent medical oncology/hematology practice in the United States, announced a $2.5 million expansion of its corporate headquarters, located at 4371 Veronica S Shoemaker Blvd., Fort Myers, FL. The announcement was accompanied by a groundbreaking ceremony attended by FCS leaders and community officials, including Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson on December 1, 2014. Recognized as the leading community oncology practice in Florida, the company will add 21,132 square feet in the two-story build out, due to be completed in 2015. Half of the new space will be used for administrative services; the other half will house an expanded Rx to Go program, FCS’ in-house specialty pharmacy for oral oncolytics. November 25, 2014…… Fiesta Bajo Las Estrellas (Party Under the Stars) benefit for Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation raised over $54,000 at the second annual event, which was held November 15, 2014 at the Center for Building Hope. Foundation Board Chair Brad Prechtl and his wife Terri kicked off the festivities with a VIP reception at their home prior to the event. Prechtl said: “The community really turned out for this event. Terri and I are honored to be able to welcome supporters into our home for such a worthy cause. Cancer patients should not have to choose between paying their rent or utilities and paying for their treatment. The Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation helps with these types of bills so that patients can concentrate on getting well."
