Florida Cancer Institute-New Hope Joins
Florida’s Largest Community-Based Oncology Network

Cancer Patients in Four Counties Will Benefit from Merger with Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute

New Port Richey, FL – January 1, 2012. . . . . . . . . Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, the leading community-based oncology practice in the state, announced that the merger with Florida Cancer Institute-New Hope is now completed. According to Brad Prechtl, CEO of Florida Cancer Specialists, the merger increases existing services of the state’s largest privately-owned oncology practice and provide expanded treatment options to cancer patients in Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, and Sumter Counties.

"Florida Cancer Institute-New Hope brings long-standing experience and excellent patient care into our practice,” said Prechtl. “We are delighted to welcome these outstanding physicians into the Florida Cancer Specialists family, and we are excited about increasing the number of clinical sites that provide radiation oncology, PET/CT scans, and other cutting-edge treatments and diagnostics for our patients.”

Dr. William Harwin, President of FCS, added “Increasing patient service areas is one of the primary goals of Florida Cancer Specialists because it is at the very heart of our mission to provide world-class cancer treatment close to a patient’s home and family. As a result, our patients can access the best possible treatment with the least amount of disruption to their daily lives.”

The merger with Florida Cancer Institute-New Hope adds seven clinical sites to the Florida Cancer Specialists’ network, extending service areas to Brooksville, Hudson, Inverness, New Port Richey, Spring Hill, The Villages, and Zephyrhills. In addition, the merger brings more comprehensive treatment for patients, including services in medical oncology, therapeutic radiation, and diagnostic radiology, as well as adding three comprehensive centers, several specialty centers, and a mobile PET/CT unit.

Dr. Jorge Ayub, President of Florida Cancer Institute-New Hope, said, “The merger of our practices provides an excellent synergy for our patients. Continuity of care will have no interruptions because our patients are able to continue seeing their own physicians in the same locations they are familiar with; and, by joining Florida Cancer Specialists, we will now be able to offer a more complete clinical research profile, fully-integrated electronic medical records, and increased access to the latest cutting-edge treatments.”

In addition to Dr. Ayub other physicians joining the FCS practice include: Dr. Acevedo, Dr. Ayub, Dr. Bishay, Dr. Choksi, Dr. Gandle, Dr. Li, Dr. Malhotra, Dr. Matzkowitz, Dr. Sennabaum, Dr. Sokol, and Dr. Tang.

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute offers a full range of oncology and hematology services, including clinical research and the use of evidence-based medicine and proactive patient support services. Additionally, Florida Cancer Specialists is a strategic site of the Sarah Cannon Research Institute, the largest community-based clinical trial organization in the United States. Because of this affiliation, FCS’ patients have more access to national clinical research trials than any other privately-owned oncology practice in Florida. Florida Cancer Specialists is a proud recipient of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2011 Clinical Trials Participation Award, which is presented nationally to recognize practices that have established high-quality clinical cancer research programs.

Founded in 1984, Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has pioneered the community-based oncology model in Florida that is now considered a benchmark for patient-centered cancer treatment. In addition, all of the Florida Cancer Specialists clinics have fully-functioning Electronic Medical Record access integrated across different specialties and between outpatient and inpatient care, thus ensuring the highest quality of patient care while reducing related health care costs.

Prechtl said, “FCS believes that we must provide the most advanced clinical treatments coupled with rigorous attention on patient-centered care. Everything we do is designed to offer our patients the best opportunity for a positive outcome, as well as a better and less stressful overall patient experience.”
