Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute Contributes To Real-World Analysis Demonstrating Ambient AI’s Potential To Enhance Cancer Care And Reduce Administrative Burden for Providers
Fort Myers, Fla., October 26, 2026 – A study coauthored by Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, LLC (FCS) President & Managing Physician Lucio N. Gordan, MD is among the first to assess and identify measurable improvements in documentation efficiency, timely chart completion and provider experience across community oncology practices with the use of ambient artificial intelligence (AI) scribe technology. A poster presentation of the study received first place honors at JADPRO 2026, the annual national conference of advanced practice providers who specialize in cancer care.
“As cancer care becomes increasingly complex, it is essential that we leverage innovative tools that support both patients and providers,” said Dr. Gordan. “Results of our analysis demonstrated consistent improvements in documentation efficiency, compliance and provider experience, highlighting the meaningful impact ambient AI can have across community oncology practices.”
The research analyzed ambient AI use across three community oncology practices, comparing pre- and post-implementation data and feedback from 85 APPs to assess its impact on documentation efficiency, compliance, workflow, and burnout.
Key findings detailed significant and consistent improvements:
- Documentation & Efficiency: Ambient AI use reduced incomplete notes by 73%-81%, decreased documentation time by 53%-66% and achieved 75% provider adoption early in implementation.
- Timely Chart Completion: Practices saw substantial gains in documentation compliance and chart completion, including a 67% reduction in notes pending 3-5 days, a 75% reduction in notes outstanding more than 10 days and the complete elimination of notes aged 6-9 days.
- Provider Experience: APPs reported a highly positive experience with ambient AI, with 81% noting improved well-being and reduced burnout risk, 95% expressing confidence in documentation quality, 97% intending to continue using the technology and 96% recommending it to peers. Providers also reported more time for patient interactions and greater focus on clinical decision-making.
Dr. Gordan said, “Use of ambient AI technology is expanding rapidly across health care. Our ongoing priority is to thoughtfully evaluate and adopt innovations that enhance the care experience, support our providers and help ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.”
